A woman's struggle for equality in Japan in the 1880s. Eiko Hirayama leaves Okayama for Tokyo, where she helps the fledgling Liberal Party and falls in love with its leader Kentaro Omoi, just as the party is being disbanded by the government. Eiko and Omoi are jailed because of a fire at a factory instigated by Chiyo, a servant girl from Eiko's home in Okayama, who was sold to slavery. A few years later the 1889 constitution is proclaimed, Eiko, Omoi, and Chiyo are pardoned, and the Liberal Party is reinaugurated. However Omoi does not campaign for women's rights

Con cierto retraso debido a que la película se me ha descargado hoy mismo, aquí están los subtítulos: OpensubtitlesHe de decir que traducir a Mizoguchi, y hacerlo para vosotros, no ha sido un trabajo. Ni siquiera un placer: ha sido un honor Como curiosidad simpática, en los subs franceses había una línea sin el texto en francés. Increíblemente he podido traducirla escuchando el original (porque era fácil, no creáis) De algo ha servido el año de japonés en la escuela de idiomas.Poco que decir respecto a la película, salvo que es una maravilla, como es habitual en Mizoguchi. Al final los héroes revolucionarios (hombres) festejan el triunfo mundano mientras la mujer -la heroína secreta y casi anónima- se retira del mundo. La delicada pincelada del maestro, tan fina como siempre.
