Kurama Tengu - Goblin in Stirrups (Masahiro Makino, 1959)

This is the definitive version of the Kurama Tengu legend, a mysterious
samurai fighting to overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate and bring Japan into a
new world. There was a great Civil War going on in Japan during the same
period of time as our War Between The States. The difference is that while this
country had a war of secession, as the South tried to remove itself from our
federal government; in Japan, however, there was a battle to completely unify
the nation under the leadership of the Emperor, and bring power back to the
Imperial Government. Against this backdrop, the lone masked rider known as
the Kurama Tengu (Goblin of Mt. Kurama) comes to lend his presence to the
Royalist cause. With pure motives driving him, the samurai known as Kurata
dons his mask at night, and like a Japanese 'Zorro', he puts his life on the line
to help create a new and better society.
